Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs are a lot of fun!  There are so many different ways to do this event.  I always meet with my client in order to tailor the music and the events for this kind of celebration.  I have an event planning worksheet which my clients receive ahead of time.  I encourage people to think about and write down the music they want to hear and or dance to.  Most people like a mix of newer and older music and I haven’t played for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah yet that didn’t include the hora and the traditional Jewish chair dance!  There is no wrong OR /right way to do this.
Keeping an ear on the music choices and volume is an important part of my job at a Bar or Bat Mizvah.  I always need to “read” the crowd and be prepared to change the tempo when necessary.  I also censor my music and do not play any songs that have a parental advisory warning on it.  I also try to avoid playing songs with objectionable content that is obvious to the listener (see article).  There is soooo much tasteful music available to choose from (I have a growing list of over 38,000 songs).
